What Drives Cashew Nuts Prices
Cashew pricing is split between the RCN market and the processed kernel market. RCN prices depend heavily on the Kernel Outturn Ratio (KOR) - the percentage of usable kernel per nut. Higher KOR nuts command premiums. West African RCN competes with Vietnamese and Indian buying, as those countries process the majority of global cashews.
Kernel prices are driven by consumer demand in the US, EU, and Middle East. Snacking trends and health-conscious consumption have supported growth. Processing yields, labor costs, and factory utilization rates in Vietnam and India influence the spread between RCN and kernel prices.
Currency fluctuations, particularly the Indian rupee and Vietnamese dong, affect competitiveness. Shipping costs and container availability also impact final delivered prices significantly.
Seasonal Pricing Pattern
The West African cashew season runs from February to June, with peak harvest in March-April. RCN prices are typically lowest during peak harvest and rise through the off-season. Kernel prices have their own dynamic, often firming in Q4 ahead of holiday season demand in Western markets. The best time to contract RCN is at harvest peak; kernel buyers benefit from buying during Q1-Q2 when supply is fresh.
Recent Price Trend
RCN prices have been relatively stable in early 2026, with strong West African harvests offsetting increased Vietnamese processing demand. W320 kernel prices have softened slightly from 2025 peaks as supply chains normalized.
